NC should not be paying for the test wells (they are) , that is tax payer money going to oil companies. I am curious to see how the pooling takes place. You need some to sign on a lease in order to have an "odd man out" that doesnt want to sign in order to be pooled or forced.
What happens when a large area of homeowners say no....?
If people would reject this then it wouldnt happen anywhere but everyone is so trusting....
There are plenty of people that dont want it.
Also I have not heard of any leases outside of Lee County.
None should be forced, pooled, counties denied rights to vote something out, that is not an American system that is force.
I agree with you completely. It makes me more mad and upset that we taxpayers are paying for test wells and that also says to me that this government is very determined to start fracking here and they don't care who they need to step on to do it. This is why they took away power from counties.
I am hoping that people here get mad and scared and relay this information to their elected officials because this is not a Lee county problem, this is everyone's problem These chemicals will be in the ground and there is no magic wall to stop them from passing over to another county and its water supply. In addition, we love farmers markets here. Are you going to want to eat meat from livestock grazing in Lee County or any area with fracking?

This can't possibly be true. The party that rammed this legislation through is the ONLY party that is protecting our constitutional rights. It must be so, they told us it was......
An even greater concern than the risk of contamination is the fact that a third of the water used will be trapped underground indefinitely. The ironic thing about fracking is that what has driven it has been the outcry of environmentalists over the need for cleaner energy. Well, here it is. Guess we can't have it can we?

EXACTLY.
It makes me so angry - it's big government at its finest, all to benefit corporations...certainly not the people...and they don't see a problem with that?
This is spreading so fast across the US there is no way to avoid it unless the state has no shale at all.
Sadly that is not guarantee. NJ is generally not a target of Fracking-although there is some conflict on weather or not there is shale in the state. However part of NJ relies on the Delaware river basin for water and there has been talk about drilling there. So far it has been stopped.
I am curious also how this would impact the Preston Development corps plans for Pittsboro. That area is also on shale. Maybe they have the money to keep driller out of that part of Chatham.

i can't take it
Why complain? We need more energy. More development right??? A growing population will need more energy. The talk of amnesty has increased the hordes crossing our Southern border. They will need energy.
Yes, we do. To compete in world markets and protect our standard of living, we need more energy.
The fundamental ingredients of any manufactured item are labor and energy. We are never going to compete with Asians on labor rate. (We shouldn't want to. Matching their low labor rate would be done by matching their low standard of living.) Therefore our opportunity rests on the ability to drive our energy costs toward zero.
Our government should sponsor the construction of new nuclear electricity generating stations. Hundreds of them. Private enterprise is to be protected: after a nuke is up and running it is auctioned off to US utility operators, or syndicates of them. If electricity is much cheaper in the US than any other country, energy-intensive industries will thrive. Aluminum, steel, cement, chemicals, glass, and other energy-intensive commodities will be manufactured here, and at low cost. We will be exporting goods made of steel and aluminum for the simple reason that US products cost less!
Consumers will switch to electric cars, willingly, because the operating cost will be low. We will import no foreign oil because there will be no demand beyond what our own resources provide.
There are hidden costs involved with nuclear energy. The same may be said of other energy sources. Oil pumped from undersea wells begets Deepwater Horizon oil spills. Natural gas produced by hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") introduces harmful chemicals into our groundwater. Coal mining produces tailing piles which leach toxic substances into streams. There is no such thing as "clean coal" except in the imagination of mining industry lobbyists.
Burning fossil fuels produces greenhouse gases. Nuclear energy does not.

The Town of Chapel Hill is seeking to expand the installation of renewable energy generation systems on its facilities. As part of their plan, the town is investigating a 100 kilowatt solar electricity system for the Homestead Aquatic Center. The system would save Chapel Hill up to $400,000 in energy bills and 6,000,000 pounds of carbon dioxide over its 25 plus year lifetime - generating enough electricity annually for 20 energy efficient homes.
