I think I heard a shrew in my apartment but couldnt find any info online to see if they are common in NC. It could be a rat, dont know. The sound was loud. Has anyone seen it in this area? What trap can i use to catch it?

Shrews are common in Wake County but (unlike mice) they stay outdoors... unless you have a cat like mine which brings "playmates" indoors, alive and unharmed.
Shrews aren't very fast so I catch them with a small plastic food container and release them outdoors.
What did it sound like? There are a lot of things that make noises around that I'd think of before I'd think of a shrew. Some insects can be very loud like katydids.

Its possible. It sounded a lot like the shrew from asian countries. I grew up there so I am familiar with it. So I started researching it online & came across the name for it in usa. It was a loud, shrill sound.
I think it's highly unlikely that it would be a shrew. They would not willingly venture indoors here. Probably a katydid or cicada or something like that. They're extremely loud. Could be a cricket, too. They don't infest, though. No need to call the pest company. I'm sure it wants back outside.
Havent heard or seen anything suspicious since the last time. Whatever it was must have left. Thanks for everyones inputs.
