Just an informal survey of how you treat restaurant sanitation scores. Is there a minimum score level for you to eat at a restaurant?

I get a bit leery of any place with a score below 93, and it requires a special menu for me to eat there. I'll walk out if I see a score below 91.

Every Friday, WRAL shows the worst scores of the week. It is surprising the types of violations that a restaurant can get and still come out with an "A" rating.

I agree with 93 but see no reason to loosen the criterion for a "special menu." A restaurant is clean or it's not.

It's too easy to get an "A" rating. A kitchen with roaches will still get that "A".

Groupon (among others) offers tempting discounts at restaurants. It's advisable to check the sanitation score before making a purchase decision. Easy enough to do: Wake County Restaurant and Sanitation Inspection Grades

When patronizing an eatery with an especially high score I make it a point to compliment the owner and tell him that his efforts are appreciated. It matters!

One good example: D&S Cafeteria on Buck Jones Road in Raleigh.

Diane and Sylvester Smith, hats off to you!

We were planning to try Thai Cafe in Wake Forest after reading about it on another thread, but after seeing it on WRAL this week with an 86.5, we will be taking a pass.

Anything under a 96 is scary to me but I will look at what the violations are for before deciding. The points off don't make sense to me very often. A roach infestation can just be a point and that bothers me much more than when someone stacks dishes when they are wet which I think is 1.5 points.

YES. I always look to see if there are roach violations for this reason.

For some reason 93 is my mental cutoff too, and I'm not happy about the 93 but several times I was already there when I saw it was a 93.

I've never even thought to look this up before visiting a restaurant! I guess I've eaten in too many street taco stands in Mexico and food hawker stalls in Singapore. Oh wait - they were probably cleaner than some of the restaurants here!

If it's a chain, it better be a 94 or better.
I gladly eat at a few B's.

Me either! The only time I see the rating is if it is right there in my face...never thought to look for it!

I'll leave a restaurant if I walk in and SMELL something strange or if I sit down and SEE that it is dirty!

I hardly ever get sick so maybe those germs are good for me!

I'd like the authorities to assign 15 penalty points for roaches or rodent droppings.
In other words, you can't get an "A" rating if either kind of filth is observed.
If both are present, padlock the doors!
