I have a four year old whose interest in art borders a minor obsession. She draws literally for hours each day and she will often choose to draw over even eating (so she's got the whole starving artist thing down). I would like to find some opportunities for her to be exposed to different art forms. We have done and plan to do additional art classes at Cary Arts Center and we take her to the art museums in the area from time to time as well. I am just wondering if there are arts camps, art mentors, or other art schools in the area worth checking out. She will be starting kindergarten next fall (2015) so also elementary schools with good arts programs would be of interest as well. Thanks in advance!

These are in Raleigh....

Haven't done these but have seen the kids at camp and they look like they are having fun!

I have heard nothing but great things about Arts Together for their preschool program and I assume summer camps too!

Jerry' s Artarama is a great source for art supplies and they have online art lesson videos for when your 4 year old gets bigger.

Cary Creative Center has some classes (although none listed at the moment) but looks like a fun place to get art supplies (it's like the Scrap Exchange in Durham - another fun looking place to browse).

Second for Arts Together for the oldest and best immersive arts experience in the area for kids 3 to 13. Art, music, dance theatre, painting, clay/pottery, drawing. Some teachers have been there for years. It's amazing and really caters to art passion in kids.

The NC Museum of Art has several family programs and runs summer camps also. Could be good for you in a couple of years — your child has to be 6 for summer camp. NCMA
