I agree. This has gotten out of hand. These kids need schools and multi-track will give them good schools that are near home. Which is what MOST parents say they want.

I guess if the land barons* over in West Cary want to have more control, they'll have to shell out private school dollars and drive their snowflakes to school every day.

*is a joke, as 95% of the lots in West Cary are small.

Also, it is not parents of kids going into the new neighborhoods complaining. I would think they would welcome the change since they are usually the posters one here asking about capping and overflow schools. The complaints on the WCPSS site are from those who are assigned to Mills Park and do not want to change to YR.

Well, they moved into an area that was rapidly developing unless they've lived there for more than 15 years, so I think this is really still people who are fairly new to the area that thought it wouldn't grow and how they could think that is beyond me.

YR isn't the end of the world. I guess they'd prefer their kids get reassigned?

Nah, those complaining likely want WCPSS to build them a whole new school to accommodate their little snowflakes.

I imagine the vast majority of people who move here know about YR and Trad schools. And I imagine they know about the growth in real estate and the school crowding issues yet they still chose a home with single track or trad schedules thinking "it will never happen to them."

MPE was YR the first year it operated. The BOE changed it to traditional by surprise in a spring afternoon session, with the school staff learning like most of us from WRAL. The staff made the switch in only a few months with near flawless execution. At least if they switch this time, MPE and MPMS will have much more notice. As a parent with children in both, I have a horse in the race and see the logic. I also know how complex the switch is - teachers leaving for other schools and schedules one of the big ones - but I see the logic from an administrative perspective. Just give us ample warning this time.

You are right that parents and staff should be given ample notice, that would be the proper way to implement this type of change.

What I completely fail to understand is the short-sightedness of the parents lobbying for traditional - knowing that the schools are over-crowded and we are running out of space and the ability to give a proper education to our children. By converting to a year-round, more students can be accommodated, in an efficient way. But of course...lack of foresight and the squeaky wheels are making the most noise...
Traditional schools with 3 month gaps do nothing for the student. When the pros and the cons are evaluated, I hope that common sense will prevail, for once, and they will determine, once and for all, that it would serve this area best to have YR for both MPES and MPMS. I have a 7th grader and a 4th grader in both schools..and both are excellent schools. Just hope that we dont mess up because some people are not willing to see the bigger picture.

WCPSS is accepting feedback and it is not just limited to those with kids attending these schools. Be a squeaky wheel too

Hmm, we're currently slated to start K in Mills Park ES next year and I think it sounds great. Of course, we're outside the cap looking in without it, possibly...

I actually think we'll end up over in the Green Hope or Davis Drive ES areas when we buy, but even if not, it seems to make sense to me...

This change is more likely to happen if MP and AR parents support the change. Keep adding trailers, starting lunch hour at the crack of dawn, etc. until the required number of vocal parents show up begging for a switch to YR. I am seriously tired of tax payer funded extravaganzas.
