I may have misread something, or not caught it in one of the other topics you've started - but you have a HS daughter with a nearly 4 year old child? And your wife wants to get out of the house? Who will caring for the young child?
There are plenty. In your price range, it'll be a smaller apt to get into a nicer complex. But, yes... there are plenty of apartment complexes.
Can you really live with 5 people including two teenagers and a 4-year-old in an apartment? It sounds very crowded. A house in the Triad sounds like a better idea.

Not comfortably, but OP said it was temporary and it meets his requirements otherwise. Since OP is working in the Triangle, a house in the Triad is too far away.

we plan on arriving next summer (2015). As for the kids.. I have two in high school and a grand daughter who is 4 right now. She will be in kindergarten by next fall. Also, last time I checked there was an option of day care? This is not a major concern.

what? 5 plus two kids and a grandkid? NO...there is a total of 5.. two adults and three kids. Pretty typical family size.

I understood you correctly, just phrased it badly. There are a limited number of apartments with 3 bedrooms. I hope you can find a house within your budget.
I would encourage you to just take a look at the Triad (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point). It's quite similar to the Triangle, but a little more laid back. Good schools compared to what you describe in Alaska and I think you would be able to buy or rent for less there. If you don't have particular ties or a job bringing you to the Triangle, I think the Triad is worth a look. The Triangle can be a bit trafficky. The Triangle is a hub for high tech and biotech with a highly educated work force and 3 major universities, plus several smaller colleges and universities. The Triad's economy is a little more diverse with some tech and more traditional industry than the Triangle. They also have universities (Wake Forest and UNC-Greensboro are the two largest).
The Triangle and the Triad are far more similar than they are different and the Triad is sort of an unsung gem since it hasn't been touted by Forbes and all the other similar publications in their best places lists. Just an insider tip that it's worth taking a look at.
I'm sure you can find some place that will work in the Triangle, too, but I would look at both places and also the Charlotte area, too, if a job or industry is not pulling you in any particular direction.

I just noticed that, but somewhere else he mentioned work being near Raleigh/RTP.
I'm confused. LOL.
