I am in the market for a 12x16 storage building. I built the last one myself, but am considering going the easy route and getting one from HD/Lowes or from a local company built on-site. I did a quick search of C-D and did not find any recent recommendations. Thanks for any suggestions on companies to use or avoid.
FYI (and you may already know this), anything more than 11 feet on any side requires a building permit. Just wanted to note that so you don't get a surprise when you go to sell the house or something.

Absolutely, without a doubt, this is THE best recommendation. I asked the same question, many years ago, and they were great (come to think about it, it may have been Mike who recommended them back then).
Not only did they do a great job, not only was their product far superior, not only was I satisfied, but SEVERAL YEARS later, I got divorced. Ex got the house, I got the barn (figuratively and litterally). They went above and beyond to help me find someone to move it from Sanford to Cary, with nothing at all to gain, as they worked extensively to find me a company that could help. The thing was so solid that they had trouble moving it. It was so heavy, and well built that they needed big equipment.
All that to say, these guys are not the cheapest, but they EASILY the best value around.
I say this, probably 7 years later, and two locations later. I'm still thrilled with my purchase.

If that means that you know how to build then I doubt you'll be happy
with anything that comes from a retailer.
It comes down to time vs money. On the last one, I did things like putting in soffit and ridge vents, which is probably overkill, but it took awhile to build it.
I also checked, and the last one was 10x12, so it did not require a permit. That size is fine, so I will probably go 10x12, vs 12x16.
