A recent thread about where to buy fresh seafood included several recommendations for Madden's Seafood. I was interested, and I have been getting his weekly emails that show what he will be offering each weekend.

However, there are no prices in these emails. And he wants pre-orders. How in the world do you pre-order something BEFORE knowing what the price will be? Maybe I'm being a cheapskate, but I just don't get it.

Yep, Scott typically doesn't know his cost until he gets to the docks. So no pricing is typical of the emails. His prices are not inexpensive, expect to pay the upper end of grocery store pricing - think Whole Foods.
I can tell you that we bought fish from him one week and our plans changed, so it sat in our refrigerator for three days before we cooked it. It still looked much better than what HT sells as fresh.

Thanks, Frank. If his pricing is like Whole Foods, it's too rich for me. And I hate the idea of pre-orering something, driving to go get it, finding out that it costs more than expected, then feeling like I have to buy it because I ordered it.

I think the guys who sale at the Farmers markets in the area are over priced as well. I have best luck at Saltwater and on occasion Kroger and HT.Have heard good things about A Nets Catch in Kdale but haven't tried myself.

Why don't you give Capital Seafood a try?

They are located on Lake Wheeler Road across from the State Farmers Market. You can call ahead and see what they have and how much they want for it.

Everything we've ever gotten there has been fresh from the coast and sold for a reasonable price.

based on the website, you can certainly take the riskier route of going to his location earlier in his hours to see what he has at market prices...
