The Triangle is in the running for Mercedes-Benz HQ. Reportedly a front runner. I'll hold off on the champagne for now. It would be cool though. We'll see?????

There's a thread on this in the NC forum. Some of the comments there think NC is just being used to get concessions from other areas, such as Atlanta.

I think that if they are just using us for leverage, they will stay in New Jersey. If they actually are interested in relocating, the Triangle or Charlotte has as much of a chance as Atlanta.

Is the Triangle actually singled out or is this a "somewhere in NC" thing?

I've not read the article. I tend to think it may be posturing on the part of MB, though.

What overcrowding? Population density in Wake County remains lower than Mecklenburg and lower than all of the four core counties (Fulton, Dekalb, Cobb, Gwinnett) in metro Atlanta.

Don't think so....

Raleigh does not have direct flights to Germany, right? If that is the case then Raleigh will not get it. This a a HUGE thing for all the execs....that is the whole reason they setup in Jersey in the first place. (Easy access to the homeland.)

It's probably a leverage ploy like someone mentioned. Subaru just announced it was moving it's US HQ, and this is the best part, they are moving 4 miles away from Cherry Hill, New Jersey to Camden, New Jersey and getting a $118 million tax break to make the move, gotta love it! And FWIW, there are still no direct flights from PHL to Japan.

But, RDU was recently making tons of noise about another international direct flight and a local booster group has pledged to kick in money to help an airline make it profitable. Not saying they are related, but having been involved on the periphery of a couple of these searches, they can be going on for months before someone leaks something and a reporter puts it together for a story. At the least, I am sure that it could be worked out.

On the other hand, it does kind of seem unlikely for them to move so far away from the plant. Atlanta is much closer and if they are going to move from New Jersey/New York Metro, they may as well go to the closest large city which happens to also be the largest city in the region with an airport that goes everywhere. Though, having had to travel to ATL on business when I worked for a company with a regional office there, the airport is a lonnng way from most of the office locations in ATL and in traffic can easily take well over an hour from most of the metro, two hours from the northern part. In fact, I usually just drove there when I had to be down there as the office was right off 275.
