About to sign on for Uverse for internet & TV. They offer the new fiber optic gigapower in my area. Is it worth getting? What differences will I see vs their regular 45mbs internet & TV.
Interestingly, I just checked our address again, and GigaPower is now available...we're near Reedy Creek and Maynard in Cary. They dug up the yard a few months ago, but as of a couple weeks ago they were still showing 18 Mbps as the fastest option for my address.
No notice from them that it's now available...you'd think they'd be pushing it.

Well it will certainly be faster. The question is whether your activities are the type where that speed is going to be very noticeable.

What's the monthly price difference between 45 Mbps service and the 1,000 Mbps service?
For us, GigaPower is $70/month if you would like your packets sniffed (1-year commitment and 3-year price lock). Free install and no monthly equipment fee.
If you prefer no sniffing, you have to pony up $99/month plus an extra $7/month equipment fee. Plus $99 installation and no price guarantees or commitments.
The promo deal for 45 Mbps Internet is $65/month with a 1-year commitment. Plus equipment fees and install.

Well, that is better than an 85% upcharge, albeit, I wonder how much they will goose you in Year 2 for continuing the privilege of not being sniffed.
