I'm not sure that has much to do with this area. They were set to start digging in San Jose in weeks and they held off. They've been doing that here for months. They just announced more area signups in Atlanta and opened the Fiber Space. Charlotte was like a month ago.
AT&T starting digging up our neighborhood today in northeast Raleigh off of 401. We have a Google Fiber hut about 2 miles south of us on Perry Creek so hopefully since AT&T pulled the trigger Google wont be far behind.
lawns and sidewalks have been spray painted by guys saying Google is coming to Brier Creek Country Club area. Good news for me!
They've been laying the line at the back end of BCCC. Unfortunately, the 124 homes in Durham County (Regency ranch homes) are not included as we are in Durham County. VERY BUMMED.
I'd be rethinking expensive roll-outs too if something better/cheaper is on the near horizon...
Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc., recently acquired Webpass Inc., and is expected to adopt its wireless technology, which provides superfast internet service at lower costs without digging up city streets. Webpass' wireless approach involves sending aerial data between transmitters installed on top of buildings.
Google Fiber is already up and running in seven other major cities, outside California, but a source familiar with the project says the company is putting additional fiber locations on the back burner to reassess the technology and explore a cheaper alternative -- wireless service that does not require expensive, capital-intensive and time-consuming installation of fiber cables under the ground. The source said Google is now focusing more on aerial installation.
I'm thinking of buying a house in either Cary or Apex, and understand that Apex is just on the wrong side of the Google Fiber line. Are there other fiber options coming to Apex, or are Apex residents out of luck for the foreseeable future?
Also, I know residents in Cary can currently get 300 MBPS from TWC for the price of the old 30 MBPS plan (as a preemptive strike against GF). Can you get that same deal in Apex?
Google has listed Raleigh as one of the 12 areas where it intends to first test wireless services.

- Mountain View, California
- Palo Alto, California
- San Bruno, California
- San Francisco, California
- San Jose, California
- Boulder, Colorado
- Kansas City, Kansas
- Omaha, Nebraska
- Raleigh, North Carolina
- Provo, Utah
- Reston, Virginia

Lots of interest in CBRS. Or, to those of us who work in telecom, Son of WiMax. If the technology works, the ROI for Google-over-CBRS would be way higher than the ROI for Google Fiber.
Hurry up w this already! I feel like we've been talking about fiber here since dial up.
