It's just a slang word for "Carolina". I hear that some people think it's derogatory, but no one I know has ever told me that it offends them personally. I've actually heard it used much like a term of endearment.

How can it be offensive but also be a term of endearment? Odd.
Many natives use the term endearlingly amongst themselves, BUT it's one of those weird words, that when an outsider uses it, they are usually using it in a derogatory manner TOWARDS North Carolinians. Does that make sense?

I get it. Kinda like the N word is used by some African Americans and the B word is used by some women.
So is it decriptive of the state or it's residents?
Wikipedia says Cackalacky (or one of its alternate spellings) is a slang term used to refer to Carolina. This nickname is considered derogatory by some residents.
Again I say this with the most respect, I am from New Joisy, I live in Penciltucky and I have lived in Noth Cackalacky before. We thought we might move down to Virginny. It was crowded there.
