I realize that AT&T and Google are racing to lay fiber optic lines all over the area. AT&T is in the process of laying the lines in my N. Raleigh neighborhood right now. The question I have - for anyone with the Gigapower service, or anyone who knows for certain... is AT&T taking the fiber all the way into your home, or is it fiber to the box at your street, and then still copper wire into your house?
I'm assuming that Google is running fiber all the way to the home, but would like to know that for certain too. I had Verizon FioS back north, and it was fiber all the way into the home.
For those with AT&T Gigafiber how has the actual service speeds keep up with the advertised bandwidth? It looks like with AT&T dumping their packet inspection program they are going to be raising everybody's rates to $99 for the 1Gig speed tier after the initial 1 year price lock contract period is up. That is a bit steep in my opinion, but wanting to see how the actual service is for those that have it as it is available now in my area.
Edit to add - Sorry for the alarm, I was going off of what I understood on their signup webpage. Chatting with an agent they state that the $29/mo ongoing discount is in perpetuity.
Over wifi in my house, i get about 400 down/250 up. I've never hardwired mine to see what kind of speeds I get that way but my neighbor has his hardwired and said he gets anywhere from 900-980 up and down.
1 - Does anyone use Luma or Eero with Gigapower?
2 - How is AT&T's included modem/router combo in your house (what size), good range?
Ours is dual channel. The 5GHz channel, which carries the faster speeds, has moderate range within our ~3600 sf SFH. The modem is located on one end of the house and we can't pick it up all the way on the other end of the house (I could move the modem to the middle of the house if this was a problem for me, but it's not). On the 2.4GHz channel, which for us only carries speeds of ~50-100Mbs, I can pick it up pretty much anywhere on our 1 acre property. I connect to Amazon Music on this channel while cutting my grass, for instance. Hope this helps.
