People here seem to be very interested about the types of bugs that can be found in homes. I read this article on Gizmodo about a local study done at UNC on 50 homes within 30 miles of Raleigh, and thought I'd share it. The actual study is linked in the article, although I probably won't read it myself.

You Really Don't Want to Know How Many Species of Bugs Live in Your Home

As much as I'm phobic of the roaches... the big giant "waterbugs" (I'm sorry, but they are NOT waterbugs!!!!!), this study is neat! I don't mind the other critters much unless bother me... like fleas, mosquitoes, and wasps. But the rest can stay! Never expected there to be so many though :O

Thanks for the link!

Wow, who knew?

I'm always catching spiders in a box and putting them outside. Fortunately haven't had to deal with worse for a while.

Author of the Gizmodo story has it wrong.

Lead researchers are from NC State, not UNC

In my childhood I remember seeing many "water boatmen" swimming at the surface of stagnant pond water. It was a legend among my frightened playmates that they sucked human blood.. This was of course untrue as they are herbivores. Some would carry a bubble of air with them.
