I *DESPISE* football and most sports, but even *I* am rooting for the home team!

If I was on a winning team and it just kept getting better and better, I would be celebrating too! Its a damn game...as long as they are following the rules, no harm. And really...if this is what you have to complain about, maybe its time to go find another hobby. GO PANTHERS!

If everyone rooted for the same team or player wouldn't life be a bit boring

I dunno. I don't root for any of them because I am not a sports fan and I am not bored at all.

I've gotten more into football in the last couple of years. I count myself a fan of the Panthers and several players, including Cam Newton.

His on-field celebrations don't bother me. The is a guy having a good time. It's to see that for a change. I think people are used to stoic, expressionless quarterbacks. Now comes along a guy with a huge grin who actually demonstrates his big ego and desire to be the center of attention, and people aren't sure what to think. There certainly are plenty of other NFL players who are equally demonstrative and they don't seem to get called out on it, although there have been a few "celebrations" recently that were in poor taste.

The tearing down of the banner was over the line for me, though. There's no need for that. Focus on beating your opponent on the field. No need to try to beat the opponent's fans.

Packers fan angry Cam Newton grabbed his illegal banner | ProFootballTalk

Quote:
Dobs said he paid $500 for the banner which read “North Carolina Cheesehead,” and threatened to take further action against the Panthers if they don’t make it right in 48 hours.
But if they consult their own policies, they should probably tell him to take a hike.
The team’s banner and flag policy clearly prohibits Dobs from hanging the banner over the railing of the lower deck, where it was easy for Newton to snatch, saying: “No banners or flags expressing support of visiting teams may be affixed to or displayed on any surface. Hand held signs or posters that are in compliance with the balance of this policy are acceptable.”
I have absolutely no problem with Cam snatching the guy's banner -- it's been done before by other players in other stadiums -- and I'm a Packers fan first and foremost.

Probably. Nearly everybody I know in Boston is rooting for the Panthers.

Thank god the Panthers lost. And now I dislike Cam Newton even more after his behavior in the post-game press conference.

Oh, I mssed that. What happened?

I was so shocked when he was afraid to jump on the ball and actually jumped out of the way.
