Sorry, I know this question has been beat to death! I have searched the thread and haven't found exactly what I am looking for. I am considering a job at Duke. Can someone tell me good (safe) areas (zip codes or city names) to look into for apartments. I'm trying to determine the affordability compared to the salary. I also have a young child to consider so I would like to be in a good elementary school district. Thanks!

I don't know much about Durham but the Brier Creek area in Raleigh is pretty close by and nice with good schools. I also hear good things about Chapel Hill schools but not so great ones about Durham county. But like with anywhere it's all relative and subjective.

Try Raleigh zip code 27617, maybe the Bexley at Brier Creek apartments.

Careful, though, using that zip code if you really want Wake County schools. Some of 27617 is Durham County - NOT MUCH, but I did want to warn you.

Otherwise, I agree - it's a good, safe area with reasonably priced, new and newish apartments. Lots of convenient shopping and stuff.
