My wife is a big fan of independently owned gift shops over department stores and other big box shops. So for Christmas and her birthday (and other holidays/special days) I do tend to go to these types of retailers when I buy her gifts - or even gift cards. I live in N. Raleigh and have had some good luck at a couple of the boutiques at Lafayette Village (Stuf n Such was one, I think). There's a new one that she absolutely loves in the new Harris Teeter plaza near the Creedmoor/Rte 98 interchange named Splurge. And she has also frequented Taylors of Raleigh near Carolina Country Club on Glenwood.

My question is, what are some of the favorites of the folks here, that I should also be considering? (More in the Northern half of Raleigh - but perhaps also Cary) I'm probably going to do one gift card from Splurge, but I'm looking for another place that she may not yet even be familiar with.

Scout and Molly in Cary. Some of their items have been featured by Oprah several years in a row as "best Christmas gifts". http://scoutandmollys.com/

Charlotte's may be another option worth looking at.

Swagger in Cary over near Lochmere seems to be pretty popular. not too far from the 1-64 interchange if you make the trek.

The "Shoppes at Bailiwick" is a little "mall-type" boutique collection (sort of like a flea market, but new, not used) where vendors set up booths, especially at the holidays. There will be a lot of holiday decorations but other things, too.

Lloyd and Lady across the street (near PetSmart on Strickland) has lots of fancy decorative things, very elegant Christmas decorations, etc, and women's clothing. I think the Zest Cafe' right next to it also has gift items?

Thirded? Deco. They have Deco Home two doors down on Hargett St.

Assuming you want NC centric stuff. Don't forget the NC History Museum's Gift Shop. Cool stuff in there.

House of Swank has cool NC centric shirts too. They're on Bloodworth.
