We relocated here from out-of-state over 6 months ago and have been casually looking around Raleigh for a final "settle down and buy a house" destination. I drove through Stonehenge today, and the neighborhood appealed to me. The houses were modest (which is a good thing! I'm turned off by the generic mini-mansions that I've come across in northern North Raleigh) and very charming. Definitely not cookie cutter. And the lots are heavily wooded with mature trees, which is also nice. My internet search seems to suggest that it's a young neighborhood, very family friendly, and social? If so, that's great.

My one concern would be the schools. I'm seeing that Stonehenge does not appear to be zoned for the best schools--specifically junior high. Curious to ask where people send their kids?

Also interested for any other insider input to the flavor of the community. I live off of Lead Mine, so I'm already familiar with the geographic area.

Thanks!

imagine if all of the people from the excellent neighborhoods sent their children to the school assigned to them. Then that school would become excellent too, wouldn't it?

You may be going about this in reverse order.
I suggest that you make a list of the schools you consider desirable, and develop a strategy for getting into those assignment nodes, in a neighborhood that you enjoy.

I've lived in Stonehenge for 30 years. Our base school assignments have changed umpteen times, and on occasion different parts of the subdivision have had different assignments. Point is, don't choose a subdivision in Raleigh based on school assignments because they're likely to change before your children turn 18.
