I have been put in charge (by my wife) of finding a place to get a dress for my daughter's Holy First Communion! She is so excited. Can anyone recommend a place where I can take her to get sized and pick out a dress? Even though she is the most beautiful girl in the world, I am worried that the standard size dresses won't quite fit right if I order them online.

Your wife put you in charge of this? Okkkkaaayyyy.

I got my DD's at Belk - there are slim pickings in this part of the world for communion dresses. If you don't find something you like, at least you will have a size to go by if you order online. We went to Belk, Macy's Dillard's, and I can't remember where else - like 5 or 6 different stores (Sak's didn't have ANY and the saleslady was annoyed because we were like the 100th people asking). Each store only had a limited selection. Surprisingly did not see any other little girl wearing the same dress as my DD at the Mass.

Heh, The Compare grocery store in Durham on Roxboro has a fashion center and you can get Communion dresses and Quinceanera dresses there. Odd to see at first but it makes sense if you realize the neighborhood and the clientele there.

I found the best selection at Burlington coat factory in Cary. Sounds crazy, but they had alot of pretty dresses last year when I went. My daughter is very petite so there was no way I could order online.

Thanks Twingles! My wife only put me in charge of finding the places we are going to go. I am sure my input stops there!

Default Burlington Coat Factory!!

Definitely go to Burlington Coat Factory. I looked in many places and they had the best selection. I have seen some in Penneys also, but that can be hit or miss. Storybook (or something similar) online has beautiful, but pricey, dresses if you don't see anything fancy enough. I don't know how they work returns/exchanges. Also, there is a Catholic store in North Raleigh. We bought the crown/veil there, but I don't remember if they had dresses. Good luck!

Default Holly Springs

It can be a challenge to find a First Communion dress in the Triangle (in NC for that matter), but last year my church handed out a flyer for a small First Communion showroom. It was in Holly Springs called the Catholic Faith Store. If they are still doing private appointments, then make one. We spent about an hour or so shopping for a dress and the selection was amazing and so were the staff. Super friendly . I was looking for an upscale dress and we ended up with one from Joan Calabrese. They have dresses that are for other price ranges too. It was a fun experience and my daughter loved her dress.

I have seen quite a few at Children's Orchard consignment store off of Tryon Rd. The Catholic store (In His Name) probably has them for $$$ and dept stores usually have a small selection.

Thank you very much for all the suggestions. My wife and daughter went to several places mentioned and saw some great dresses. She decided on a dress from the Holly Springs Catholic Faith Store and they measured and fitted our daughter for her dress. I heard they tried on tons of dresses. Glad she enjoyed it so much, but even more glad it is done. I think they have a link on their site where she made an appointment.

Now any suggestions on getting a new lens for my Cannon camera!
