Looking for recommendations for welding supply co to fill or exchange 40 cu ft tank with C25. Just use it for occasional home repairs now. It has lasted so long I can't even remember where I had it filled last. (or it just may be old age creeping up on me)

Air Gas is the first place that comes to mind?

Air Gas swaps them out I believe. I own a Miller Passport and can get the Co2 tanks filled at Dick's sporting goods for $4. Nice little portable 120/240 machine. I bought it just for your reasons, don't do a lot of welding and didn't want the big tanks floating around.

Thanks for the replies.
Hadn't heard about using paintball CO2 tanks for welding, but looked it up and it looks interesting.

I have always used the C25 (CO2/Argon mix). It is supposed to be cleaner with less spatter and easier to do sheet metal without burning through it. I got the MIG to restore some cars, and after that it has come in handy occasionally.

I bought the 40 cu ft tank at National Welders(now airgas), but didn't really like them. I used to go to a small welding supply off New Bern Ave near the landfill to exchange the tanks. They were much cheaper and more friendly, but they don't appear to be there any more and I don't remember the name of the place.

Yes, 75/25 is better for normal MIGs. Apparently Miller tuned the Passport to work better with 100% CO2, it has a very soft arc. Neat little machine. First of the inverters to hit the market way back when. Got it from a farmers son who never used it. He used it to fix fences on his farm.

Air Gas has, over time, bought out many of the small players in the market.

Just to update, I did find a place I am happy with.

I went to Roberts Oxygen on Westinghouse Blvd. They only charge $15 for 40 cu ft exchange tank of C25. The hitch was that my tank was out of date and hadn't come from there, so they charged a $22 hydrostatic test fee.

They were very friendly and easy to deal with.
