The existing one in this house that we just purchased is a kitchenaid but it's was left so dirty with mold and gunk growing out of every crevice. I must have spent 4 days trying to get that cleaned. The more I cleaned the more I found. In the end I gave up and decided to replace it. Too big a risk to take with surfaces we will be eating off of.
Awaiting delivery of the Bosch. Will update my experience with drying and rack flexibility here
In the market for a new dishwasher and wondering if anybody has recommendations based on experience of use. Not looking for fancy features or too many wash options but good cleaning performance and reliability of the machine. Having used a Siemens before while abroad was looking into the Bosch or Miele but open to other suggestions as well. Also opinions on appliance stores, sales and servicing experience with brands and stores are welcome. I searched the forum but any relevant posts are a few years old so I thought it maybe worth while to start a new thread. Thank you
our must feature was deep well so that the spinner under the top rack did not hit the diner plates on rack one.
Yes, from a price standpoint. Reliability wise, no. But my recollection is from last year when I was researching dishwashers for my mother.
I think it's a matter of perspective. Our Bosch was right around 8 years old when we replaced it. So, it ran for a long time. We've got a Kitchen Aid that we bought a few years ago, no issues with it. Prior to that, we'd had a Kitchen Aid for a few years in a house we sold. No issues with it, either.
That Bosch was annoying, even though it was efficient. I mean, with us drying all our own dishes after they washed, it really saved pennies... and took up more of our time.
Again.... perspective. I didn't hate it. I just would not have chosen it. It came with the house.

Be sure to use a drying agent. I dislike using those, but it was the only way to keep our dishes from being soaking wet after each wash and not drying without streaks all over them.
This was the recommendation from the sales guys over at Kitchen and Bath Galleries.

To overcome that we start our wash at about 8:00 or 9:00 pm, run it through, and open the door before we go to bed. Stuff dries out over night. I know that everything is dry...I'm the one emptying it the next morning

We tried that and still didn't like having to add dryer agent to avoid streaks. I swear, it was really an ordeal. I might try a Bosch again one day, but we have had zero issues over years with Kitchen Aid so I dunno that I'd switch. Maybe to a Miele, but I have had several good friends who had those and loved them.

Bosch interior capacity is very small and cramped because they follow European design.
We are a family of 5 now, so we needed the extra space of non-European dishwashers...which is why we chose Kitchenaid.
I just replaced a 3 year old Bosch with Kitchenaid, not because it didn't work, but because we needed maximum space. Turns out the Kitchenaid is much more quite and does a better job of actually cleaning which really surprised me.
One side-note, the Bosch was TERRIBLE at DRYING. I eventually learned condensate drying was part of all European dishwasher designs, which usually leaves dishes rather wet, and requires use of "rinse aid" products:
Its been a month with the new Bosch dishwasher. Happy with it so far. Have no issues with drying, plastics too and have the rinse aid setting to 2 drops.
