Her husband Mathew Eisley makes $175,000 with UNC. She made $147,000.

OMG, how could they have possibly needed more money that she would resort to stealing day after day for years??? I would be really really happy living off of just one of those salaries... This just makes me want to lose all faith in people. Is there no integrity anymore? How could she do that and it not feel wrong to her... And her husband had to have known with at a minimum an extra $900,000 coming in and he works for UNC, an establishment that is educating our future generations! Does he have no integrity? Could he not have said, "Hey Laura, the extra money is really great but you know stealing just isn't right and you need to stop..." But he didn't... And you can argue that he didn't know, but if my spouse was bringing in an extra $100,000 a year in CASH. I think I would know.

And yes, you are innocent until proven guilty but why as soon as the discrepancies were discovered did she jump ship? If 2.3 million went missing from your department, wouldn't you WANT to try to help figure it out? BTW, she looks in perfect health to me.

Would really like to know what happened to the $900K, how it was used or hasn't been used (maybe building up a nice nest egg), and I assume she owes it back if found guilty?

Minor point: Eisley indeed accepted the UNC job, but resigned before he actually started work there.

This is a public forum, not a courtroom. People can and will opine. Do you really think she's not guilty??

I know she sent her kids to very pricey private schools.

BTW my original comment was a joke.

I"m sure she wrote that article in 2011 and something "broke" her and she decided that instead of fighting against all the corruption and extra perks, she was just going to join in on the fun!

I'm just glad his volunteer experience is with his HOA boards!

By the way, I voted for Laura numerous times, as she did a good job getting Wake County records online and into the 21st century.

six years?
in my experience, someone was "sitting on this" by waiting until the time was right to reveal.

Did you all read this article from WRAL? Cash flow in Wake deeds office 'designed to help embezzlement' :: WRAL.com

There is no way she didn't know what was going on in her office. She ACTIVELY participated in it as well if even half of what they reported was true. She was the only one counting cash and numerous people in her office deposited cash over 1-3 years in their bank accounts exceeding $50,000. If found guilty, I'll be upset if they don't throw the book at her.

This was collusion on a grand scale!

She got the records into the 21st century, but couldn't even use 19th-century accounting standards? No one ever noticed or questioned this over such a long period of time? *Mind Blown*
