I go to Quality Inspection in Cary, or to the dealership.
I took my Nissan last year to the dealership at the Cary Auto Park to take care of a recall, and they told me I needed about 4k worth of work done. I said no thanks, just the recall. Immediately took it to my usual spot (Fast Lube Plus) and they said NONE of what the dealership told me was true. A few things they told me were about cause my car to die on the road any day now, FLP told me I had at least another year before worrying about - and I did.
FLP also replaced a part on my wife's car that didn't fix the issue, so they reversed it and charged nothing even after a couple hours of labor.
I always went to North Hills Exxon for general service and inspections. They never did me wrong...never in over twenty years. I did dealership for warranty issues.

Quality Inspection will do very small stuff like wiper blades or a taillight. That convenience is nice.
For all the clamoring about dealers overcharging, I have found that they resolve problems, make a good diagnosis, and I get on the road with the least hassle.
Yes, I can get another guy to shave a few bucks off, but too many times they are stumped and refer me to the dealership.
Cars are only getting more complicated for the general mechanic is able to handle.
Crossroads Express Lane changes oil and inspects for the same price as Jiffy Lube, without the upsell, and the techs see a Ford 30 times a week or more.
Quality Inspection looks like a great resource thanks for sharing. Any experience with going to AAA for full inspection including oil fluids filters etc or will they do all this as well?
We had the worst experience with the dealership here when trying to simply sign up for extended warranty. They claimed there were all sorts of issues with the car when there weren't. Never had this kind of experience with a crooked dealership before and this is at Cary Audi btw. The Raleigh dealer signed us up over the phone. Be careful out there.

I used to go exclusively to AAA, since they are close to the office.
But, they have turned a bit more aggressive on upsells, and often don't deliver on time.
And, they offer no quick service option.
Too many times they told me they could do something "right now," and "right now" meant 2-3 hours.
I did have them put a crate motor in my truck, with 3 years and 36,000 miles labor and material warranty. I will say this, they honor that warranty.
It wasn't cheap, but it was within a few hundred dollars of a local shop without much warranty. And they handled acquisition, return of core, etc.
I bought a new Edge in 11/2016 and the wife finally got a new car last summer. With new vehicles and little concern about repairs, the dealership is the place to go.
I can drive to Crossroads Express Lane and get in and out with an oil change at a competitive price in about 45 minutes.
With all the coffee and carbs I want to ingest. Clean restrooms. Apple computers to play with.
Without upsell.
Works for me.

Great info. Had an ok experience with AAA the one time we went so far, they did keep us waiting several hours now that you mention it.
Saved Quick Lane website as well. Thanks for these Mike.
Yep, places that do repairs AND inspections will often try to find items to charge you for. ALWAYS say no. You'll often find that they will still pass your vehicle because they were lying about the items that failed. It's a cash flow issue. The state needs to stop allowing repair shops to do inspections. It happens every day.
I go to Peace Street Inspection at the corner of Peace & Glenwood. They basically just do inspections so no upsell on anything.
I've also done my inspection at Northridge Auto Spa believe it or not - definitely didn't get sold anything at a car wash
That's where I go simply because it's nearby but it's a metaphysical certainty that they'll find a lamp that is burnt out, regardless of if the car came in that way or not. Just budget for an extra 5-spot and you'll be fine.
