This is not a personal jab, but I cannot stand that attitude. It's the same reason I can't stand the term "crimes of opportunity" - it puts partial blame on the victim.
Criminals do not need unlocked doors to commit their crimes - especially those who are perfectly willing to enter a home or business regardless of whether it's occupied or not.
If the door is locked, its not a crime of opportunity.

And there are also things that can done that don't cost money.

I agree - the citizen can do things to help curb crime. But my point is it doesn't always matter if you lock your doors, set up an alarm system, or buy 5 rottweilers. It's nice to live in a place where you don't have to worry about locking your doors, or installing cameras, or using an alarm system. These places do exist, and there's nothing wrong with aiming to get to that point.
Reporting thoroughly on crimes like armed robberies isn't over-sensationalizing. It creates awareness for a problem that the public should at least pay attention to.
It was at 8:00am on Sunday, the pharmacy wasn't open.
You know that and I know that but your unfriendly neighborhood opiod addict wants to get in and out with as few witnesses as possible....and 8 a.m. is a great time for that. If all he wanted was money, it is indeed a really stupid time to rob the place. But again, what's a lot of money to you and me differs from someone who only needs enough for the next fix.

True - although it seemed from the WRAL article that he was out for cash. But then again the WRAL article was a quick 5 liner with little detail.
Not just good working people are being lured here to feed on the boomtown.
Is "boomtown" your new favorite word, like tinderboxes? What does this even mean?
Why do you hate everyone and everything about our area?
