I drive from Holly Springs to Centennial Campus in Raleigh and it's about 30 minutes (I work 8-5 but usually get in around 7:30 to avoid major traffic)
540 (toll road) is consistently 25 min for me between RTP and South Cary. The free roads are sometimes not too bad and really add just 10 min. more but I find the driving extremely stressful. Traffic just makes no sense, everyone drives at decent speed and then literally everyone just slams the breaks for no apparent reason. Then people change lanes erratically or drive much slower than the flow (thus creating "an island"). Toll road is just straight ahead, same speed and you come home without your heart racing.
I go east from Brier Creek to Falls of Neuse & Millbrook. No matter which way I try, it's always 30 minutes. I do a reverse commute on 540 so my drive is much better than the stop and go on the other side.
Currently 20-25 mins from NE raleigh to RTP at 630 am when I go in, 40ish home at 345-4.
I did commute to chapel hill for a while and it was more like 35 in the morning and up to 90 in the evenings due to traffic. It wasn’t that bad but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it.
When we lived in Boston my husband commuted well over 90 mins each way. That is brutal and I would not recommend it. 45 is kind of the happy cut off for us.
It takes me about 20 minutes for my 13 mile commute from home in North Raleigh near Falls Lake to my work location in RTP during normal business hours.
my office, which I go to 5-6 days a week, is about 2 miles drive from the house. I never get on a highway, unless you count ITB Glenwood ( Business US70) as a highway.
