Kind of a random question but I've noticed that there used to be 5 houses on Broad Street in Fuquay Varina that have been (or in the process of being) moved. My question is - are these houses of a historical nature? These houses are very plain (I don't mean that as an insult) so I was surprised that someone would go through the expense of moving these elsewhere. Just wondering the backstory (if any). The link below takes you to the Google street view of the house that's currently being moved.

They were trying to sell off 103 and 105 (structures only) for $15K each a couple of years ago. Presumably they want to redevelop the land and will take anything for the houses just to get rid of them vs. having to pay for demolition. Nothing showing on the F-V development map for the parcel yet.

The property is owned by the mini storage folks behind the houses.

Ahh thanks for the info. I would have thought it would be more expensive to move than demo!

I assume that the buyer pays moving costs, so essentially, the seller (HH&H Mini Storage) gets their lots cleared for free, even makes a couple of bucks on the deal potentially. It would cost a lot more for demolition, especially if there was any asbestos used in the roofing, insulation, shingles or flooring.

Well, if somebody wants them for whatever reason, they're paying the moving cost. Takes it off the landowners' hands.

I don't disagree with the financials, I was just wondering if there was some historical significance. When you drive down Broad St or Main St. in old Fuquay or Varina one can see that the area always seemed like a bustling area. When the ripped down the old tobacco warehouse I thought maybe these houses had something to do with the history of the area.

I don't know that specific situation but I grew up next to a grocery store (across the street). When they began construction they moved or demo'd an entire small block. They were also small houses (1300 sq/ft). I guess it's just the option they offer to get their way with current owners.
