Bought 2017 used truck Mar 10. Temp tags exp 4.10.18. Been calling dealership daily for update, just get the runaround and some excuse that it's not them it's NCDMV. I call DMV today and that Vin# is not even in their system, s/b done within 28 days of purchase. So call dealer back and get some story about the title being "lost" in GA, they are having issue getting a duplicate. Meanwhile, I call my new loan company and find out there is a grace period for title to reach them and that has 5 more days. Now I have a truck I cannot drive because it cannot be registered and has expired temp tags. I have made first loan payment, put $10k down, paid 6 months insurance, and put on $2500 accessories. Going to see dealer tomorrow. Anyone have any ideas how to correct this mess?

PS Hendicks Chevrolet really incompetent in this whole issue. They are liars.

GO there - yes it will be time consuming and a pain the neck - GO THERE and tell them you're not leaving till it's straightened out. It is VERY easy to give someone the runaround when they are on the phone. Not so easy when they are standing in front of you.

I wouldn't count on getting that $2500 you put on in accessories back.

It might be lawyer time, or at least small claims court. I hope you have emails and not just phone calls? If/when you go to the dealership, tape record the call on your phone. (NC is a one-party consent state, so you're not doing anything illegal.)

ANYTHING THEY PROMISE YOU MUST BE IN WRITING. By a certain date AND time. I would guess that if you read the small print in the bill of sale contract, there's something about how long they have to deliver the title to you.

Was the truck on the lot before you bought it? Or was it shipped in for you to look at and buy.

Truck was on their lot. We saw the online listing and went there to view it.

This is all so upsetting. We love the truck, installed cover, mud flaps, wheel well guards etc. We have vacation soon and prob won't have a vehicle to drive. We have one other car to drive but it's small compact and we have two drivers that need a car daily. Very difficult to look in driveway at a truck I can't drive.

Write or call them and let them know you will be consulting a lawyer or the Attorney General's Office if you don't have the title by next week.

We had a situation with our supposed-to-be-brand-new car and had to invoke the idea of a lawyer. They were very offended, but stuff got taken care of.

With our car they couldn't find the second key after we bought it. Turns out that was because they had already 'sold' it to someone else, but then he had returned it the next day when his wife didn't like it, or at least that's what he said after I found a small black notebook with his contact info wedged in between the seats. He had the extra key, so we got it back directly from him in exchange for the notebook, but it sure left a bad taste in my mouth.

It's a Chevy Bolt and we bought it right before the end of the year and there's a $7500 tax credit on brand new electric vehicles which we were counting on, so we had to make sure the title came through clean to get that $7500. Worked out for us, but the whole thing definitely felt a little icky.

My husband called the Attorney General's office, too. They were helpful. North Carolina Attorney General's Office: Consumer Protection: Automobiles

I agree with most of the other people who commented.

You need to be more aggressive. Remember the adage about squeaky wheels?
Sometimes you just cannot be a nice guy. You're talking about a new truck, not a bad pair of shoes.
Make them dread seeing you walk in the door.
