I vaguely recall folks posting in the past that this had been a problem; I was approached by someone today who asked me to help - I had no cash, and stated so, and they asked if I'd be willing to purchase a card for them at one of the nearby fast food places.
I did it. I have no idea if it was legitimate, or if that gift card will just be sold for less to someone else...I really can't think of another way to have handled it, other than just to say, 'no', and the compassionate side of me couldn't do it. The guy really could have been struggling with a wife a two kids he needed to feed.
Question is - has anyone noticed this becoming a trend again in the area?
Thanks for the information - I suppose I'll just avoid their parking lot! I was told once to carry snack crackers and a list of help organizations, but obviously, haven't done that.
That was my first thought, which is why I went with the gift card. Didn't have the wife or kids with him, admitted he was walking around trying to collect from people (apparently an ongoing situation, living in the hotel while trying to work temp jobs in construction). I need to stock the car for situations like that, agree that offering food directly is the best option. Was turned down when I did that at Crabtree!
Not sure if you're a man or woman but going anywhere, even on foot, with a strange man is a really, really dumb thing to do, especially if you are indeed a woman. There are services available for people in his position. Walking around a parking lot asking for money is surely more difficult and depressing than availing himself of those services. Perhaps in addition to stocking your vehicle with food, keep some of that info handy for people like this.

Yes, like I mentioned above, I plan to keep the car stocked moving forward....he walked, I drove to the Subway.
Google Ted Bundy and his MO and maybe you'll think twice next time.
