I am moving to North Raleigh area soon, wondering if it is safe in general. Is there any neighborhoods or streets I should avoid ? Thanks a lot.

North Raleigh covers a very wide swath. That said, I've never felt any discomfort near my home (near Creedmoor Rd. and Hwy 98), or any other part of North Raleigh for that matter.

The friday edition of the news and observer has a North Raleigh insert and the last page shows the crime on a map.

I'm the one who puts that crime stuff together in the North Raleigh News section of the N&O (for about the past month anyway -- new job).

I can tell you that it's a selection, not an exhaustive list.

From my experience so far, most of the crime in North Raleigh is nonviolent. A lot of car break-ins (GPS units are a very hot item, of course) and some house break-ins. Police zone 23 tends to have more break-ins, then 22 then 21 (if you look at the map, you'll see what I mean. But I think that population density is a factor there. Zone 21 is Northwest Raleigh, 22 is mid-North, and 23 is Northeast Raleigh.

The N&O has a crime map on our Triangle.com Web site. You can enter an address, and you'll see all the incidents in the time-frame you indicate. You can also download it into a spreadsheet if you're a data-enthusiast.

If you want the url, send me a note. I'm afraid it'll get deleted if I post it here.

Hope that helps.

Mini-City is very bad but can fool you from the outside.

I"m with saturn on this one- the only part of North Raleigh I would avoid living in is the MIni City area. I grew up in the North Hills area (well before it was trendy), and have always liked N Raleigh

I lived on New Hope Rd & Capital for 8 years and watched Mini-City sink.

OK I might sound like a fool since I've lived here almost 2 years, but what is/where is mini-city? I know you said it's on/near capital blvd, but what are it's boundaries? My wife and I did look at all areas in East Raleigh off of New Bern Ave. and some areas off of Capital and Louisburg rd. I'm really glad we chose to live in NW Raleigh in the Leesville area.

It seems like, in general, the crime becomes more of a factor the further east you go (toward Capital) but don't think you're immune from it anywhere. Criminals go where their targets go.
