Just read another post mentioning snakes here. Are there no snakes up north?

At least we don't have the snake problem in the Everglades or the homeowner with dozens of rattlesnakes in his house.

Saw more snakes in the NE than I do here. I used to run over garter snakes (unintentionally) almost every time I mowed the lawn.

That being said, I've seen way bigger snakes here. No like.

Growing up in CT, copperheads were quite common.

Lived in various towns on Long Island for 45 years and never saw one in the wild. My nephew had a wildlife guy come to his birthday party and I got to hold an enormous yellow and white one which was so cool.

Visited Raleigh one weekend and saw three.

I'm totally fine with our slithery friends.

Were you close to the water? I was always landlocked on Long Island, in pretty suburban areas.

Across the street from the canal and down the road from the bay.

Snakes in the south are just friendlier. Those in the north tend to keep to themselves.

Weather patterns do have a big effect since snakes are cold blooded. They won’t be out of their cozy quarters unless the ground is warm. Plus there are more species in the warmer climates.

Lived in Texas 30 years.

Seen a snake less than 10 times. None venomous.

I think less a north south thing and more of an urban-rural density thing.
