Anyone else enjoy DT Raleigh events 4/19?
We had nothing planned so I took my 5 and 2 year olds downtown with plans of enjoying the Science Museum like we always do. We noticed the roads blocked off, parked on a side street and asked a police officer what was up. Found out about the Planet Earth Celebration and the Dog Walk. We sat in the shade and listened to some live Bluegrass music just south of the Museums, checked out all the doggies, and just had a great time. I try to keep up with the weekend planned activities, but this completely missed my radar. The kids loved checking out the banjo, mandolin and upright bass.
I have to say, in instances such as this, I look around, see college kids, adults, families, etc...having a blast, some drinks, good eats in a fun safe environment and can envision a time in the hopefully near future where Downtown Raleigh comes even more alive on the weekends. Good stuff!!

Sometimes there are too many choices!
I went with my husband and some friends on the Piedmont Farm Tour. It was great fun and I learned a lot. The kids seemed to enjoy it most. There are others later in the year. I think the next one is at the end of May.

We too took in the Planet Earth celebration. It was great. My kids loved the "garbage band" and the City of Raleigh was giving away rain gauges, faucet diffusers (right word) to make less water come out of your faucet, and tree identification "trading cards" which we are glad to have.
We all check out "Raleigh Creates" put on by Artspace on Fayetteville Street. The artist were all out painting at easels on the street and they had activities for kids and adults. My kids were very into the stone carving. They actually had large pieces of granite and marble with hammers and carving tools and were letting kids carve. I thought I wouldn't get my daughter away from it. She was fascinated and is determined to be a stone carver when she grows up.
On Saturday night, without the kids, I went to see Raleigh Ensemble Players production of "Bent". Very impactful. We did not get out of there til midnight and hadn't eaten. I LOVE that there are now so many places in downtown that you can eat dinner that late. We ended up at the Borrough for a great dinner and cocktail. Didn't get home til 1:30am and am still paying for that late night! I am too old to stay out late!

We were in the SPCA K-9 3-K! And we enjoyed the Bark after Dark celebration afterward in City Market. It was a glorious day downtown!

It was great seeing dogs everywhere downtown. Coming out of the play, we saw people sitting outside at Fins Restaurant eating dinner with dogs by their side!
