I have to admit I usually go to the Pit if I head DT Raleigh for BBQ but I guess I need to visit Clyde Coopers before they move on.

The N&O story (https://www.newsobserver.com/living/...281810503.html) quotes the owner as expressing similar frustrations about the state of downtown.

Might it have something to do with their hours - 11:00 - 4:00, Tuesday through Saturday? And they close early regularly.

Those aren't exactly dangerous hours. But they are hours when fewer people are working downtown than they were pre2020.

Yep. She complains about apartments and high rises, but wouldn’t that create more potential customers? Aren’t they cash only? In this day and age, that’s a big nope right from the start. I’m guessing that means no way to order via UberEats/DoorDash, too?
Never mind that Sam Jones and Longleaf are now in the mix, along with the aforementioned Pit.

They've been accepting credit cards for a few years now, but yeah, the hours are certainly limiting.

They were Monday-Saturday 10-6 before the pandemic.

I hadn't even thought about the competition from these places at lunch. They both have wider menus.

Yeah, she's making excuses. She can't make a success of it on the name alone, so she vaguely blames scary stuff.

Agreed with much of the above. Downtown has its share of issues, but the reasons (excuses) provided amount to little more than a refusal to adapt to what restaurant ops demands in 2023.

Recent Google Reviews and subsequent ownership responses (including a customer served moldy bread with ownership follow-up acknowledging this was an ongoing issue at the time and a customer being served dry chicken with ownership follow-up acknowledging this was old “end of pan” chicken not suitable to serve but a new wait staff wasn’t made aware) drive this point home.

This morning's N&O has a follow-up story, quoting other downtown restaurant owners who complain.

Open 27 hours a week, cash only, not available on any delivery platforms, notoriously bad service, and never open past 5PM in the heart of DTR. Here are your reasons. Beasley's, St. Roch, Tonbo, Caffe Luna are always packed and they're in the same area.
