My daughter would like to take riding lessons and several people have suggested this barn. It is off of Carpenter Pond Road (I think). I am worried about safety, etc. Has anyone had good or bad experiences there? Thanks

They brought horses to the Kids Expo at the Fairgrounds last year and seemed to do a good job there.

Depending upon her experience, Southern Oaks on Shooting Club may be a better choice. They have small classes for beginners and then move ups to full shows - horses at levels appropriate to her ability as well. It is a clean and well managed barn with options to lease in partial ownership or total lease of a horse if she decides to continue and you find yourself on the "buying a horse" path. If I am not mistaken, Dead Broke is only trail riding with no containment in paddocks - that's a little scary for me with a beginner. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help. She is an intermediate rider and has done the lesson route. She is looking for a more relaxed experience. I just don't know the best way to find it for her.

If you go to Citysearch.com and enter raleigh and riding you will get
quite a few riding spots with user reveiws.
Dead Broke has 20 plus reveiws... I think they have 4 ( and maybe a
partial) stars out of five.

A large group of my girlfriends went riding there last summer. We had a wonderful experience!

I used to live just up the road from that farm. I would take my son there and he'd learn about the horses. We never paid for any rides, but he learned alot from the owner ( I forget his name as this was seven or so years ago). Back then it was Renegade Farms. I don't know if it has the same owners.... I think there was a divorce or something like that. The land out there is pretty and makes for a good ride.

McNair Country Acres. Google it. Nice little secret to some and its 15 minutes from 5 Points. The owner is a personal friend as is the tack shop owner located on the Farm (Ranch) about 114 horses of which about 60 are school horses all this on 250 acres. If you where to look at it from an arial map you'll see this oasis surrounded by Cary, Garner, Raleigh. I believe the age limit is you have to be 7 years old. I work on the tack repair here part time and on a Ranch in Colorado. Although Western is more my style..English is the riding at McNairs.

We haven't made a decision yet. I read mixed reviews about the safety and friendliness of deadbroke on the city search website. I am really looking for a safe, fun, safe, educational, safe experience for my daughter.

McNair is a lot farther away and she is ready for western...otherwise we would consider it.
