We are considering a move to Raleigh Metro and for awhile we seemed very interested in what we read up on " Wake Forest ",but by reading some of these posts and by looking at the map that I have (which is 3 years old) it seems like Wake Forest is away from everything.

Is Wake Forest far compared to lets say Holly Springs or Apex to where most of the jobs are? What area would be closest to the RTP and Duke university? Does Wake Forest have up to date modern movie theaters?

Are most of the good medical specialists for appointments located in Raleigh or are they spread evenly throughout Wake County?

Is any area known to be better located then another as far as getting to where the malls are, doctors, jobs, airport, good hospitals and so on?

Any info would help

Thank You

I feel that it is too far out there. I'd rather be in the center of the action. From an area like northwest Raleigh, or Cary, you can zip over to Chapel Hill, Durham, or downtown Raleigh whenever you feel like it. Wake Forest is kinda out there on the northeastern fringes of the triangle area.

I live in wake forest, and I probably used to feel like it was "way out there" but I also feel like when people live in the towns surrounding raleigh, they tend to stay close to home. When I lived in apex, I pretty much stayed in apex, same with cary.

So, wake forest, it is a great place, and I don't feel like I have the "leave" town for my day to day needs. There is a movie theater (in wakefield plantation), triangle town center mall is about 15-20 minutes south on capital blvd (it is where capital blvd and 540 intersect). As far as doctors go, there are a number of internists, family practice, pediatricians, eye doctors, etc in wake forest with new one popping up all of the time. For hospitals, I have only had to take my kids to the emergency room twice, and we have gone to the "stand alone" emergency room on falls of the neuse, called the North Wake Complex which is about 15 minutes from our house.

Wake forest has all of those "things" you may need, grocery stores, target, home depot, walmart, plus restaurants and specialty stores.

Commuting to RTP from wake forest depends on where you live ( I think there is another recent thread about this) because wake forest is bisected by capital blvd and people live on the east or west side. We live on the west side and my husband commutes to rtp in about 30 minutes, no traffic, no interstates. I think from the east side you end up going capital to 540 which can have more traffic. You can also get from wake forest, down 98 to durham (I can get to the museum of life and science in durham in about 25 minutes, which is close to duke).

Anyhow, PM me if you have more questions, I would be happy to help.

Leigh

LOL...come visit. Wake Forest is not in the boondocks...really. It started as a small town that has slowly become an suburb of Raleigh. We have pretty much everything in the area you'd need, and you're a close trip to most things in Raleigh.

Personally, I like to got to the old movie houses in Raleigh. The Marque (just across Capital in Wakefield) is nice....but like most movie-plexes lacks any real style.

The commute really varies depending on where you are working and which part of the town you are living in, but I know people that do commutes into RTP, Duke, Morrisville, my husband and I both drive up the Granville county (easy commute) and for awhile a friend of ours drove to Garner every morning and don't really feel it's a bad commute.

I think it depends on WHERE in Wake Forest you are.

If you are downtown Wake Forest or in Heritage, it takes less than 1 minute to the nearest and newest grocery store. It also takes about 10 to 15 min. to the nearlest mall, Triangle Town Center.

If you are near Hwy. 98, on the Wake Forest end, you are about 5 miles from Target and Home Depot and a couple of new grocery stores.

If you are near Hwy. 98, on the North Raleigh side, you are about 5 min. from a grocery store and about 15 min. from Crabtree Valley Mall.

Most of what people view as Wake Forest being "out there" is if you are out on 98, midway between Wake Forest and North Raleigh, you can drive 10 to 15 miles and find a ton of new subdivisions but yes, it does take you an extra 15 min. or so to hit "civilization" again!

Hope this helps!

Vicki

Wake Forest is definelty not "Out there" Especially since it crosses juristictions with Raleigh on it's southwest side in the Wakefield area you cross Capital Blvd and it's Raleigh with the new Marquee Cinema. And on the Wake Forest side there's the new Golden Corral and the Factory Fun Shops.

Nah, Wake Forest isnt out there. On the other Hand Holly Springs and Apex is "Out there" In my honest opinion.

Just so no one is confused, The Factory is not exactly near the Golden Corral resturant (off Capital)...it's a good mile (at least) down South Main.
