what is the situation with the areas there that are garner mailing?

I know that over on the west side/cleveland area there are areas (near hunters mill) that have a garner mailing address which is wake county but the are assigned to Johnston county schools. My ? is, is this safe? Does anyone know if there is anything in place for this to be permanant?

Is there any chance that they can get moved out of the johnston school district and put back in wake? I would hate to have not chosen wake for the redistricting and then go to johnston to only have it changed back. I know with Clayton growing I worry that this area could possibly "give it back" if that makes any sense....

If anyone could shed some light on this that would be great since we are coming back down in 2 weeks and would like to relook at some of this area.

thanks in advance.
-Suzanne

I can't imagine that would happen, unless they completely rezoned the county...which I've never seen happen in my 33 years in NC. If you live on the Johnston Co. side of the line, you'll be in the Johnston County school district no matter what. The Cleveland Schools area is a good area too My only concern with that area is if you live kinda close to the Polenta school district (Twisted Oaks is a good example of a neighborhood in both districts). I haven't heard too many good things about Polenta.

I would suggest maybe calling both County offices directly as they would probably have the answers you are looking for. I would hate for you to make a decission based off of information that is supplied here that may not be accurrate and just word of mouth. Good Luck!

Oh no absolutely
Tarheelgal30.......I just would hate to think we were safe and then have something change ya know......I mean we have a town outside of ours that is districted to here and its always been that way, but since its basically down as a town from another county I was a little concerned...

Is it hunters mill and twisted oaks that are the 2 phases that are separated? I know I've come accross that info b4......

the research on the school sites shows Polenta doing well in their stats....are there other issues?

Its so difficult being so far away and trying to research and get the most info to make the right decision.......

I appreciate the help...

My mother-in-law is a newly-retired teacher of over 30 years, and she came up here during the week and checked out almost all the schools in the area for our daughter before we decided on an area to move; she even went onsite to most of them. She did some research for us from whatever special info she has access to, and said that Polenta's scores are not that great, and weren't getting any better. I forget what she said about the teacher turnover rate there, but her main thing was the test scores.

Her order of best to worst elementary schools in Clayton, based on test scores, teacher turnover, neighborhood, and principal, were:

Riverwood Elementary
Cleveland Elementary
River Dell Elemenary (I hear the principal there is awesome)
East Clayton Elementary
West Clayton Elementary
Polenta Elementary
Cooper Elementary

I am a teacher in Johnston County and I've heard nothing but good things about Polenta Elementary from parents.

I tend to agree with NC Native with her rankings...based on all I have heard since being here 1 year now.
I would add McGees Crossroads Elementary into that mix as well...maybe right below Polenta.

Riverwood Elementary did not make their adequate yearly progress (AYP) in math for the NCLB according to the preliminary results from this past spring EOG testing.

we rushed thru the 40/42 area and really fell in love with the east side of clayton so which riverdell/ east clayton or riverwood would cover .....but with my "requirements" lol I really want a flat piece of prop in a new sub where i can put my own pool in...I am somewhat limiting us.....

so I figured we would venture back over to the west side and see what we missed....so that list will be helpful since I honestly just passed thru and have more info on the other side of town .......

Thank you for that list.....I appreciate it....

I don't think that Wake County could convince Johnston County to just hand over a portion of their area!

Wake County schools and Johnston County schools are two separate school systems. Doesn't seem likely that they'd share students, either.

My parents live in Johnston County and have a Garner address, as does their entire neighborhood. They've lived there for over 7 years now.
