I will be coming for a third visit from the northeast in August. My question is what areas in Apex and Wake Forest are similar to Preston.I have been to most developments in Cary and liked Preston the most since the lots are mostly a third of an acre and up and good schools in the area.I have 3 young boys so schools are a concern.I have read all about the re-districting and understand it could happen anywhere in Wake county. My boys are very active in sports so that is also a concern for choosing a neighborhood.I will be looking for a law enforcement job, so being close to RTP is not a must. Also looking for a real estate agent to see some of these areas, any recommendations would be helpful. My price range would go up to 500,000.I know a lot of people say Preston has some fly over issues but here in the northeast planes are constantly flying overhead and low and after a while you do not even notice it anymore. The developments that have .25 and less lots are not an option.I know these are the same old questions, but any advice would be great.

There is no area or development in Apex proper that resembles Preston in terms of being built around a Country Club/Golf Course.

If you like the idea of a Country Club/Golf lifestyle, you might investigate Sunset Ridge in Holly Springs.

The closest comparable area in Wake Forest would probably be the 'Heritage' development, but I still wouldn't describe them as particularly similar.

Try Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh as a great Golf community. But I am not sure what you are looking for if its just Golf Courses the following are the two closest to Apex:

Governor's club in the Southpoint Mall area
Preserve at Jordan Lake on Jordan Lake

Forget Sunset Ridge unless you want to live within 200 yds of power lines

I don't understand why the OP just doesn't buy in Preston?

Not a factor.
He is good to $500K, and that will easily get him a well-located little love shack in many Preston neighborhoods.
If Preston is the benchmark and affordable, why not buy the benchmark?

Edit:
Oooooh, NRG,
I would have had this in first, had I not been sending you witty DM's.....
