Good luck in finding anything in Raleigh that's not cheaply constructed, or has the feel of living in a cookie cutter for less than 500k. And you're right about Mordecai, the rat infested ghetto turned high dollar. Good luck there. And the school system, well, you won't know from one year to the next where the hell your kids will be, or if they will be year round or not. And the real estate agents are all grinning from ear to ear because they are making commissions off million dollar houses in the "all white" school districts. They need to tax their six percent for their inflationary measures of the housing for the new schools, instead of the poor people that are trying to work for a living constantly seeing their taxes raised on laready jacked up housing values....
My advice is to look away from Raleigh and drive into work, if that's why you're going to live there.
