Friends are passing through town at the end of the month and I'd like to take them to dinner at a nice place, that is not terribly expensive, near Duke. They have fairly eclectic taste and would enjoy trying something different, though not too "way out". They will be here on a Monday. Any suggestions?

Magnolia Grill is the classic choice, though it may be more than you are looking to spend. Maybe Rue Cler (sp?) downtown? If they are of the non-meat eating types, Another Thyme near Brightleaf might also be a good choice.

Oh, almost forgot one of my favorites, Watt's Grocery!

Might be too pricey but I would suggest Watts Grocery

For an affordable place with a great vibe and lots of menu choices I love Elmo's Diner

I also like Anotherthyme. It is near Duke's East campus, across from Brightleaf Square.

Watts Grocery or Piedmont are highly recommended New Southern restaurants for eclectic but not "out there" tastes.

Default Thanks

Watt's Grocery fits more into our budget and has a nice selection of entrees. I have just recently heard about it. Anotherthyme has been on my list, maybe we will make it there without company, though.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

I don't think Watts Grocery is open on Mondays. You'd be best to check with them.

What about Mount Fuji or Piazza Italia in Brightleaf square, both pretty good and reasonable priced.
I also second Watt's grocery...very nice. Closed on Mondays though.
