Ok.....need your help. My husband and I are suppose to drive up to raleigh tomorrow for a couple days to check on our house that is being built. We have a 10 hour trip coming from Alabama and need to know the gas prices...obviously if they are too high I won't be coming. They are ripping us off here in Alabama....some close to $5.00!!! Can you believe this....irritates me!!! Thanks for your help
It was $3.99 in Durham and I heard someone at work tell me yesterday that his friend who owns a convenience store raised his gas prices to $4.40. Check around.
between clayton and garner along us business 70, I have seen prices ranging from $3.64 to $4.79 a gallon for regular. I should add that those with the cheapest prices are running out of gas quickly. The BJ's GAS in Garner was shut down this morning. The Kangaroo on Guy Rd has the $3.64 and still had some gas about 30 minutes ago.
Try going to Trip Gas Price. It's run by AAA and they use local average gas prices along your route. I've used it before when I had to take a trip from W. PA to New Jersey and it estimated $75 in gas which is exactly what I paid. Hope this helps!
By where I live it is between $4.09 and $4.85. You need to report any prices above $4 as this is price gouging. The fuel they have was purchased months ago at pre-hurricane prices. This is price fixing. If they need to raise the prices in the coming weeks due to the hurricane, then so be it. Anything raised today, or for the next few days is illegal.

Sorry, but the only problem with that argument, and it is a huge problem, is that somebody has to pay for the NEXT SHIPMENT of gas. Money doesn't fall out of the sky, and neither does gasoline.
But at the current price per barrel, the prices are not right. Something is up and it smells really bad. The gov. has stated that he is investigating it further and has also given the link to report price gouging. It's about time!

If you read the financial news, you'd know that wholesale gasoline prices - the price that your local gas station pays - spiked to near $5 yesterday and Thursday. If a station owner has any desire to stay in business, he needs to be able to cover the cost of that next delivery. The average of current supply and future supply can be less than the new shipment, and he can move profits from convenience store sales to cover gas purchases temporarily, but over the long-run, he has to pass on those prices.
There is enough competition among gas stations to ensure that prices stay at market levels.
If people are stupid enough to line up to fill their tanks like they were doing yesterday, then station owners have every right to spike prices as extra compensation for dealing with the thick masses.
