We are arriving in Cary tomorrow and will be staying at the red roof inn on Walnut street. What are some good places around there to eat breakfast? We are from PA, so we are used to good diner breakfasts. Would prefer to avoid any NATIONAL chains, but would not be opposed to a really good regional chain that we might have never eaten at.

Thanks,

Stavs

Gypsy's Shiny Diner is about a half mile north of there, at the NE corner of Walnut and Buck Jones

Barry's Cafe is a mile or so south of there, at the SE corner of Walnut and Tryon

I've been to Barry's for breakfast on the weekend and like it. Never been to the Shiny Diner though.

If you're willing to go to downtown Raleigh, you might want to give Big Ed's a try.

I'd second Gypsy's if you're looking for that diner experience and don't want to go too far. Brigg's was voted by a number of different magazines and reviewers -- I've always been very happy taking my out-of-town friends there, and they do have a number of locations.

I think this time we're gonna try Gypsys since it seems close to the hotel.

Next time we come down, or when we finally move we'll have to try the rest. Thanks!

Gypsy's is very close to the hotel and is a great choice. I have had people stay at the Red Roof before because it is one of the best values in Cary, good location and price and not too bad a shape. I just miss the day when Gypsys was open later... used to go in at 2 AM for blueberry pancakes. Now we just have the Waffle House or drive to the IHOP in Raleigh or Apex.

Ye Olde Waffle shop in Chapel Hill is pretty good as is Elmo's in Durham. Neither are anything I would say you MUST go to, still searching for that "crazy breakfast place!" in this area. I'd say Ye Olde Waffle is closer to that than Elmo's.

Gypsy's is still open late on Friday nights and Saturday nights, but I agree there's a dearth of late-nite dining options in Cary.
