I just read an article at wral.com, they say there are 666 sex offenders living in the Raleigh area. They also say this number doubled in 3 years. Check it out. It's a scary world for sure. This can't be arvearge, Can it?

I am glad to see that they are at least catching them. When I was a kid you did not know if anyone in your area was an offender...but at least now we have access to that info and can better protect ourselves and our families.

666? OoOoh, evil number

Check the definition of a sex offender according to the the THE NORTH CAROLINA SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION PROGRAM. 99.9% of what it covers are truly heinous crimes; I wouldn't want anyone guilty of these offenses living in my neighborhood.

However, violation of 14-178 "Incest Between Near Relatives" - we have a perv of that persuasion living near us - a guy who got a little too friendly with a first cousin (or maybe it was an aunt. I'd have to go back and check), though it was consensual. And while I'd look at them and say "ewwww" I wouldn't be concerned about my safety.

Ya know.. Union County NEW JERSEY has over 900 listed on the Megan's Law List ALONE... gosh I can only imagine how many more there might be. I think the population in Union County NJ is aobut 531,457, according to the 2005 census. Wake County alone has a population of about 748,815.. Raleigh alone is just over 200,000. Stating Raleigh area.. well that can mean ANYWHERE overall but since its Wake county.

OH well.. what can ya do.. any where ya go there are gonna be offenders.

Linda

That is something very important to remember about the registry that a lot of folks forget. It's not just rapists and child molesters....it includes anything that's technically illegal in the state, including many "activities" (I won't go in too much detail here) between consensual adults. It's important that if you find out someone near you is on the registry, before freaking out, find out *why*.
(For example I heard about a married couple who got frisky in their tent while camping out, got caught by a ranger, and well, they're now technically "sex offenders" in their state.)

Average? Actually....it's below average from what I've seen of other areas. I'll have to see if I can hunt down some stats later today.

However, I am more scared of the predators that are NOT yet on the list then the ones that are to be honest.

Exactly. Here's another example of what can get you listed as a sex offender...
