I overseeded a little about 2.5 weeks ago. I'm getting some germination of my fescue grass but not as good as I hoped. I'm not sure if the heat wave we had last week did me in.

I'm hoping that now that it is cooler the lawn will kick in. How is your overseeding project going?

I overseeded right after Labor Day and it looks great - as do most of the aerations done for all my clients. The key is watering daily for 2-3 weeks after seeding...

You'll see more grass start to come up soon. Judging by the picture it looks to me like you put down too much seed. Fescue is a bunch grass and if too much germinates it won't have room to spread out due to the overcrowding and die. Just something to keep in mind next year.

I overseeded on Oct 3rd and am extremely happy with the amount of grass that came up. We have been watering 4 out of 5 days. Going to mow it for the first time Wed or Thur. Have to at this point - but I am worried about the tractor tires going over it. I aerated, threw down fertilizer and lime over the next fews days, then did the overseeding last. The seed came from "Do it Best". It was a 50lb contractors fescue blend - no name. It has certainly led me to believe the name on the bag is not all that important as I have spent the $$ on Rebels before and not seen this kind of results. I am sure it is all about the watering as we were much better about this then in years past.

I overseeded around labor day and I'm pretty happy with the results. I had a large bare spot where I used to have a flowerbed (and ornamental plum tree that died) and that area has totally grown in.

Mine is going well aside from a few small patches. My backyard was near bare prior (new house, builders rye grass died out in the summer) and it is filling in nicely. Another round next spring and it should be about perfect. I have been religous about picking every weed that shows up (in my sprawling .25 acres lol) so I hope all this work translates into a great yard by next year!

I have not started yet. UGHH! I think I missed the window or in my case the seed spreader. Has anyone over seeded this late or should I wait until spring? A seedless guy wants to know?

Seed or not to seed this year that is a questions trying to find roots in me!

I am typically all done by now.....heading off to the Over seeding hall of shame here!

Thanks all!

You can generally do it through the end of October. We haven't finished ours yet either. I think we'll finish this weekend!

I did it right this year!!! Wow, beautiful fescue, I must say my lawn has never looked better!!

Lots of compost and topsoil worked into the lawn, lots of top dressing and a premium grass seed.

With the rains and cool temps boy has it grown and just wow.

I am a happy grass grower.
