Hi, I currently living in Scottsdale, AZ - a very nice, active and large suburb of Phoenix. My boyfriend is in the Air Force and is being sent to Seymour Johnson. I have many questions regarding the areas in between, jobs, etc. I am in healthcare sales (do not have a job that would transfer there). I don't mind country but not too country. Everything here is new and all subdivisions with everything very easily accessible. From what I have read on this site so far, it doesn't appear I would like living near the base. Does anyone have any thoughtful suggestions on a great place to live in between? He is more willing to commute longer than I am if that helps!

Side note: I was born and raised in the West and have never been to the south other than Atlanta so great descriptions and 'things to know' would be helpful.

Thank you for your help.

Well, central Raleigh to Goldsboro would be slightly more than an hour's drive. Most all of the other bigger cities would be at least that (Greenville or Wilmington). If you were to live to the east of Raleigh, in Zebulon or Knightdale, the commute to Goldsboro would be shortened down to about 50 minutes (according to google maps). The Zebulon/Knightdale areas are about 15 minutes apart - Zebulon being further east. From Knightdale to the approximate center of the Triangle (~RDU) is 24 miles - travel time being highly variable based on time of day. Lots of people really appreciate the value homes and land in the Knightdale/Zebulon as compared some other parts of the Triangle. The area is growing quickly and now has many of the shops and services you would need on a daily basis but is still close enough to other parts of the Triangle for things you use less often.

I imagine that in healthcare sales, much of your job would include driving around? If so, it will matter less where your 'office' is as your office will be your home and car?

Could you give some idea of how long of a commute you're willing to have, what kinds of things you need to have close by, etc?

If you'd need a job to decide, might try finding one before you decide where to move.

Pharma sales may be contracting.
