I'm thinking about moving to Raleigh in the next few months and I was wondering what neighborhoods and parts of town are the most pet friendly? My dog will be three in August and she LOVES to play and be around other dogs. Perhaps there are some nice dog parks around?
Every part of town is pet friendly. There are always people walking or running with their dogs.
There are 3 off-leash dog parks in Raleigh: City of Raleigh | Off Leash Dog Park Areas (http://www.raleighnc.gov/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_0_306_209_0_43/http;/pt03/DIG_Web_Content/category/Leisure/Parks_and_Facilities/Off_Leash_Dog_Park_Areas/Cat-Index.html - broken link)
The nearby town of Cary has a dog park as well, but they charge for it: Town of Cary : Dog Park (http://www.townofcary.org/depts/prdept/parks/dogpark.htm - broken link)
In addition to this, you can walk your dog at any of the lakes and county parks and at the beach. Some beaches are off-leash during limited months of the year (lowest traffic months).

I would highly recommend the Oakwood/Mordecai area. The off-leash dog park here is great--it's big, shaded, and has a separate area for the small dogs. There are a ton of dogs around here. If you have the money and like old houses, Historic Oakwood is the place to be in my opinion. It's beautiful, easy walking distance to the dog park, and easy access to the Peace Street/downtown area with a lot of restaurants and whatnot. Mordecai is also close by...it seems slightly less expensive, but still not cheap. We live sort of between the two in a much cheaper neighborhood...lots of small houses, and a lot of them have been on the market recently. Check the link...definitely my favorite part of town:

There are lots to do with dogs here. Quite a few dog parks (Oak Wood and Wake Forest are my favorites) and most are free. You have to pay for Cary's and I believe Chapel Hills.
Dogs are welcome on the outdoor spaces of many resturants downtown, lots of walking trails (mostly on leash).
Great! That's good to know. I'm weighing my options and waiting to hear back about a job. Fingers crossed. I'd love to move somewhere I know my dog is going to be welcomed everywhere I go. Thanks everyone!
My neighborhood (Oxxford Hunt in Cary) seems very dog friendly - I think it's the proximity to Fred G. Bond Metro Park (http://www.townofcary.org/depts/prdept/facilities/bphome.htm - broken link) that makes it so attractive to dog owners.
Dogs on leash are welcomed all over. Unfortunately you can only take your log off leash (legally) within the confines of the dog parks or in someone's fenced backyard.
