A couple of months ago I noticed little black specks on my new white car. I couldn't figure out what the source was - (flowering trees....tar from the road....) Well, just found out it's a cannon fungus. It's pretty gross. They're all over the car from top to bottom and if you scrape it off, it leaves a oily residue. The source is decaying mulch!! Worse yet, it's not in my driveway, but it's in the parking lot of where I work. ARGH!
Anyone else have this problem and how can I clean it off???? Nothing seems to work!

Wow, how awful!

I've never heard of this and luckily don't remember ever seeing it on my car, but I surely will look more closely. Will waxing the surface take care of it?
Here's a link I found:

I had a problem with that at my old house.. it's a b*tch to get off! I wound up scraping each spot off with my finger nail, then using bug/tar remover on the circle that was left. You can also use automotive detailing clay to remove it.

It is not fun.. good luck!

Had a problem with that a few years ago. It jumped out of my front beds onto the bay windows. Had to scrape it off, sand and then re-paint.

Haven't had a problem since switching from pine bark mulch to Cyprus mulch.

I think I might have had a few of these at one point. I have a black car with a white roof, so it was hard to notice them on the black, but I saw a few on the roof. I also tried scraping them very lightly with my fingernail. I think that the bug & tar remover will probably be the best bet (unfortunately, I hate that stuff), although I did not try that. A wash using Dawn dishwashing liquid, then clay bar, then re-wax might do the trick. If you wash with Dawn you must reapply your wax because it will strip everything down to bare clearcoat.

Automotive detailing clay is great for removing lots of microscopic contaminants and other scuzz that gets embedded in your clearcoat. If you have never used it before, just make sure you read and follow the directions carefully. It is relatively easy, but if you do not follow the direction you could easily mar your finish.
