Hi, I am looking for a nice place outdoors to sit and read a book or just chill and maybe get some sun. I live in southeast Durham, near Southpoint, so someplace within a reasonable distance (no more than 30 mins away). I am a 22 year old female, so someplace safe--I would be going alone. And preferably a place that is not a hangout for college kids. Thanks!

How about Duke Gardens? It is nice there at any time of the year but especially when it's warm and sunny.

Duke Forest. Take 40 to 15-501, head towards durham. Turn left at first light, Mt Moriah. Turn right at stop sign, onto Erwin. Turn left at first light onto Whitfield. You'll see an entrance to Duke Forest on your right. Walk in on main path, you'll come to some steps and a cliff area, walk down to the creek and head downstream about 1/4-1/2 mile, you'll come to a small rapid with a bunch of big rocks that are great for hanging out on. Not alot of sun, but about as peaceful as it gets.

If that is too remote, second vote is Duke Gardens.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will try one of those places tomorrow, since it will be nice and warm Any suggestions of places in Cary or western Raleigh? When it gets spring time, I may want to try various places. Thanks again!

Western Raleigh--Pullen Park or the Dix campus, both off Western Blvd. The Park will probably be full of children, making it a little loud, though!

Duke Gardens gets my vote too. It's great to sit in the gazebo in the Spring when the wysteria has bloomed. What a wonderful smell! Of course there's so much wysteria growing wild everywhere you can find it just about anywhere....

Also the Eno. There are all kind of big rocks along the Eno that would be great to read a book. There are several locations to choose from. Eno River Association ~ Education, Advocacy & Conservation
