One thing I noticed while looking at houses in Chapel Hill is that very few have basements and only some have walk-up basements. Where do you store your Christmas decorations and other out of season stuff? I'm used to having a big basement. I know I have to get rid of stuff but I can't get rid of everything.

Is there a pull down attic? Many people use that (have some of it floored with plywood) or any available closets in the house. Are there any little "attic" spaces (some house have attic spaces with small access doors around free space in the house).

The last resort (which is why most people here do not park in the garage) is to use the garage. We have storage that my husband installed hanging from the gargage ceiling (these things are like 60 bucks a pop at home depot).

Garage and attic seem to be the most popular places to store thing here.

Default Re: Enough storage space

I haven't actually chosen a house yet but I am thinking ahead and wondering how much of my stuff I can keep. I guess I have to learn not to be a packrat.

We keep our stuff in a shed and the attic. We actually installed pulldown steps for better access to our attic (was originally just a hole in one of the closets to get up there), cost about $500 including labor, plus another $50 for plywood.

We installed a shelf in our garage above the doors. That is where our xmas stuff us. We also have a walk up attic to store things.
