We are in the process of selling our home in the Hudson Valley area of New York and will be relocating to the Cary area of North Carolina. I have been through the area many times for business but now that we are thinking of buying a townhouse in the area, could anyone recommend which would be the best area of Cary to buy in.
We are both retired 66 and 61 years old and would like to keep our purchase price in the $220,000 to $250,000 range.
We no longer care about school systems but better school systems tend to be in better neighborhoods. Mostly we are looking for convenience to shopping and dining out a few times a week.
There aren't too many areas of Cary that you should avoid. Since you are looking for a townhouse, most of the neighborhoods you look at will be new or within the last 5 years.
Your price will dictate where you end up.
If Cary doesn't have what you want, I'd suggest you check out Wake Forest. I've had alot of folks from LI that seem to really like the Wake Forest area and you'll get a bit more for your money, as well. Re sale in Wake Forest is great, as most of the schools are considered desirable.
Check out Northwoods Crossing, there are several very nice townhouses for sale around the 200k mark, and they all have garages, and are only a couple of years old. Most are around 1,700 sf, 3 BR 2.5 bath. There is no pool, however we belong to the YMCA which has a really nice pool. The area is really convenient to everything. It seems to be a good place to retire, because the people are really quiet, you rarely even see anyone.
Upchurch Farm has resale townhomes originally by KHovnanian, and is near many conveniences and great schools.
Weathersby also offers resale townhomes by Centex in a good location in Cary, only a few miles to retail and dining.
Stonebridge is in the south of Cary, with good access to retail and dining. New construction townhomes by MI Homes.
Also in south Cary, in West Lake, DR Horton has new construction townhomes, some with first floor master suites. You also may find a resale home there. A little farther from town, but not bad.
You will find others, but these are a decent start.
Like Vicki said, there isn't really a bad place in Cary, just the place that you find most convenient with the home you want.
I would highly suggest Stone Creek Village for you, but your budget is about $100,000 short. If you wanted to expand it, then Stone Creek Village at High House & Davis Drive in Cary is a great place to live if you want to walk to everything and avoid a car a lot of the time.
