My wife and I are current residents of Northern New Jersey and are actively pursuing relocation opportunities in the Raleigh / Durham / RTP area. In the past few months, we've made a number of trips to the area to locate and identify employment and housing possibilities. While the housing goal has been reached, we are still finding it quite difficult to secure employment.

My wife (holder of an MBA in finance) is a financial advisor in the banking sector while my expertise rests in clinical research - contract negotiations, study start up, etc. This experience is strengthened by my law degree (JD).

We've had discussions with major companies there but our efforts have yet to secure employment. We are hoping this correspondence opens up networking and employment opportunities that would be useful. At the very least, if you're able to offer advice to further our efforts, we will truly be appreciative. Thank You.

If you haven't already, reach out to Quintiles, PPD, and PRA. You might also contact Life Sciences Law in Chapel Hill.

Tell us where you've applied, so we can help you better. I'm a little surprised that you haven't hit Quintiles or PPD yet after making "a number of trips." What "major companies" have you been looking / applying at, because these 2 are among the biggest in the biz.

skaternum - to clarify - I have submitted to the CRO firms you mentioned. In fact, I had a face to face interview with Quintiles late last year for a contracts manager position. Unfortunatly, because of reorganization and downsizing, the position was placed on the back burner. We now find it necessay to expand the scope a bit.

You might have better luck in one of the 44 other states that have lower unemployment rates than North Carolina.

Accoring to Charlton Dude, many companies are starting to hire again in this area.

We are in a high unemployment rate currently, but I believe we will come out of it sooner than a lot of other areas of the country. Regardless, you should check out UNC and Duke Clinical Research Inst. they both have pretty large clinical research facilities, and may be able to use both your areas of expertise! Good luck, let us know how you do!
