Do any of you have experience with the SPCA in Wake County? I've come across this society and noticed they do neutering services for a low cost of $40 dollars per male dog. I just thought I'd get feedback on anyone's experience there. Thank you in advanced.

Wake County just opened their low-cost spay/neuter clinic so lines are bound to be long. We adopted two from them years ago and they were neutered before they left the building with no 'real' complaints! I am sure the new clinic is even better. Take advantage of the savings and help control the pet population at the same time!

SNAP-NC: Spay Neuter Assistance Program of North Carolina

This is a program that offers low cost spay/neuter services from mobile vans. It's not exactly SPCA, but I know several people personally, who have had their pets altered through SNAP, with great success.

I've no experience with the SPCA although I'm sure they are great. I just wanted to say "thank you!" for neutering your dog!

Just wanted to post an update. I had my dog spayed through SNAP-NC this past Friday. I got there a little early and they took her right in. I had all of the paperwork done before I got there (you may download it from the site). I paid for the service and left. I picked her up that afternoon and she was fine. She was pretty groggy, and slept off and on the rest of the evening, and slept all night. Woke up the next day and was about 60% back to her old self. The following day (Sunday), you'd never know she'd had surgery. I also had a microchip implanted. I gave her pain meds Saturday, but none on Sunday (she didn't seem to be in any pain).

Her incision is healing nicely, doesn't seem to have any pain associated with the tatoo they give them (so if she's ever lost, no one will try to spay her again). All in all, I'd say it was an excellent experience. It was a little odd for me to think of taking her to a mobile vet for this procedure, but they did a fantastic job, and I'd highly recommend this for anyone who is looking for a lower cost alternative to spay or neuter their pet.

I do dog rescue and use the mobile spay/neuter places all the time. My experience has always been that they do a great job. They do the surgery all day every day, so they have lots of experience. Because lots of low cost s/n clients don't take their dogs in to get spayed until they are pregnant or in heat, the doctors are so used to doing the higher risk surgeries. I imagine a regular old spay or neuter on a healthy young dog is a cake walk for them.

I imagine it was...she's 7 months old. Her incision looked like a plastic surgeon did it! We are very pleased!

I also used Snap for my dog, Halo. She was at 6 months I think (this was last year). They were wonderful, nice from the phone call to the service. The price was less than a 1/3 of what our old vet charged. Plus, I got a good deal on some Frontline and Microchipping.

Another service is POP-NC
